This morning, Chicago United held its 2026 Annual Meeting, where we welcomed Members, Partners and Supporters committed to the vision of Chicago United. We thanked our outgoing Board Members for their service, welcomed our incoming Board Members, and presented awards to those who have demonstrated outstanding support to this organization. I extend special thanks to Kathy Scherer, our 2026-2027 Board Chair, and the amazing team at Deloitte for hosting this morning’s meeting. I appreciate the commitment of our outgoing Board Members – Former Board Secretary Nichole Owens, VP, Gas Operations, BGE, An Exelon Company; Maurice Grant, Principal, Grant Austin, LLC; Dr. Manika Turnbull, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois; David Andalcio, Founder and CEO, Wynndalco Enterprises, LLC; Kimberley Goode, Senior Advisor, Goode Advising LLC; and Tony Robinson, US Central Region Tax Managing Partner/Principal, EY – have demonstrated through their terms. Equally, I was honored to present our inaugural On the Rise Awards to two proliferating leaders: the Emerging Leader Award to Elaine Sanders, Supervisor-Operations, Illinois American Water; and the Mid-Level Manager Award to Filmawit Gebrezgher, Director-Capital Markets, Cabrera Capital Markets. Before accepting their award, Blue Daring, led by Founder and President Melissa Ballate, enacted a captivating Keynote Presentation, unpacking the research and journey that bared our simple truth: Good Business Includes Everyone. I thank the team for illuminating this work to build bridges towards a more vibrant, inclusive and prosperous business landscape throughout Chicago. The coalition gathered at this morning’s Annual Meeting is a powerful example of our simple truth in action: when we work together, when everyone has a seat at the table, and when we provide the tools and programs needed for inclusive leadership — that is Good Business.
