Lee
Scott is president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the largest
retailer in the world with more than 6,000 stores in 15 countries
and more than 1.7 million associates worldwide.
Scott joined Wal-Mart in 1979 as an assistant director in the logistics
division, rising through the ranks to executive vice president of
logistics in 1993 and executive vice president of merchandise in
1995.
He became
president and chief executive officer of the Wal-Mart Stores USA
division in 1998; chief operating officer and vice chairman for
the corporation in 1999, and president and CEO in 2000.
Under Scott’s leadership, Wal-Mart has continued to grow and improve
its business formats and merchandise selections at Wal-Mart discount
stores, Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets; SAM’S CLUBS; international
operations; and Walmart.com.
In addition
to operational improvements, Scott is recognized for people development,
including the launch of a corporate diversity initiative. In 2005,
he launched an aggres¬sive corporate environmental sustainability
initiative, leveraging Wal-Mart’s global reach in three key areas:
renewable energy, zero waste and sustainable products.
Scott
serves on the board of directors of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and the
United Negro College Fund.
A native of Joplin, Missouri, he received his bachelor of science
degree in business from Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kansas. He
has also completed the executive development programs at Penn State
University and Columbia University. He and his wife, Linda, have
two children, Eric and Wyatt.
